Lydia Apartments

The Foundation purchased a vacant nursing home across the street from Plymouth Church in the Stevens Square-Loring Heights neighborhood and developed the plan for Lydia Apartments, a permanent, supportive community for homeless adults with disabilities such as mental illness, HIV/AIDS and chemical dependency.  The Foundation worked with supporters, community leaders and political decision-makers to make Lydia Apartments a reality.  Opened in November 2003, 40 homeless individuals have a place to call home. Spectrum Community Mental Health provides on-site support services and CommonBond Communities provides professional property management.

Teach a computer class, help residents write resumes, plant some flowers, organize bingo night, answer the phones or help in Lydia’s Closet -- these are some of the ways individuals can volunteer at Lydia Apartments. Volunteering at Lydia is a wonderful way to make a difference in the life of an individual as well as your own. For more information contact Pam Sabey at 612/879-5770.
